In issue 33, we featured this delicious rum cocktail as our Caffeinated Tipple. We still absolutely love it to this day, particularly as the weather gets cooler and we look for something more warming and rich in flavour.
Big, bold and smoky, this drink packs a punch, with thick, rich flavours of Plantation’s overproof rum playing well alongside the robust smoke from Ilegal Mezcal. The bittersweet notes of Bénédictine also combine well with the spiced Amaro di Angostura.
This is all rounded out with the chocolate notes and subtle dark fruits from Vagabond’s Finca Los Laureles coffee. This rum cocktail is the perfect way to round off a meal, especially when served with dark craft chocolate.
Oaxacan Gold
35ml Ilegal Reposado Mezcal
25ml Plantation OFTD Overproof Rum
15ml Amaro di Angostura
7.5ml Bénédictine
25ml Vagabond Finca Los Laureles coffee, brewed on a V60 and left to cool
A dash of chocolate bitters
Stir the ingredients well with ice to dilute and chill the cocktail.
Strain over ice in a rocks glass or straight up in a compete. Serve with Damson Tanzania Kokoa Kamili 95% sprinkled with smoked sea salt.
